Overthinking is the act of obsessing over a situation, idea, or decision to the point where it interferes with your ability to function. It is often associated with people who are highly anxious or over-emotional, and it is the act of getting stuck in a cycle of negative thoughts that lead to anxiety and stress.
When someone is overthinking, they are often unable to move past the cycle of negative thoughts and move on with their life. A negative thought pops into their head, and they get stuck on it and try to analyze it to death. This leads to a chain of other thoughts popping into their head, and before they know it, they are stuck in analysis paralysis.
